“ Turn to God and change the way you think and act, because the kingdom of heaven is near.”
( Matthew 3: 2 God’s Word Translation )
Repentance does not only refer to sorrow for sins committed; it refers to a complete turnaround in the way we think and act. True repentance means forsaking the pleasures of the sinful nature and finding pleasure in the word of God by constantly thinking about it and doing what it says. God shall readily forgive all who turn to him in true penitence.
“ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
( Isaiah 55: 6, 7 ESV )
When we accept Christ, we become sons of God, heirs to the throne of God ( John 1: 13 ); and God commands us to live by the Holy Spirit.
“ So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you. As I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” ( Galatians 5: 16, 19 – 21 NIV )
Therefore, I “beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.” ( Ephesians 4: 1, 21 – 24 NLT )
God bless you. Amen.
